Below the slopes of Montalet, the Payrac farm... A few steps on the trail reveal an ancient reedbed, a beech and oak forest, a small developed peat bog and, finally, the round summit of the Laouzeto moor dominated by a statue-menhir…
The Mountain as an Open Book...
The Payrac site, which welcomes visitors for this walk, is a privileged place for discovery. Just a few steps are enough to encounter a wealth of heritage that is sometimes unsuspected.
While the forest, moorlands, and a peat bog bear witness to the unique landscapes and nature of the Lacaune highlands, the statue-menhirs, stone-lined paths, jasses, and pesquiès also tell the story of the mountain people. There is no doubt that Payrac carries the marks of this close bond between human society and nature.
The walk can be passionate, instructive, and deeply moving. You can linger under the beech trees, touch a stone, be amazed by a flower, and let your gaze wander over the distant peaks. You can feel and listen to the wind, allowing yourself to be steeped in the spirit of the place.
