In the kingdom of the mouflons, go from the chestnut trees to the beeches and the moor, from the hamlet of Héric nestled at the foot of the Caroux rock, to the heights of the Aret mountain.
The Caroux National Hunting Reserve was created in 1956 and later became the Caroux - Espinouse National Hunting and Wildlife Reserve.
It is a natural area where the tranquility and natural habitats of wild fauna are preserved.
The mouflon conservation objectives having been met, today the reserve serves as a territory for study and experimentation. Environmental education and training activities are carried out there. Public access is voluntarily limited and regulated, in order to reduce the disturbance to the mouflons as much as possible and to allow for the experiments to be carried out under the best conditions.

Du parking, emprunter la route à gauche en direction de Douch jusqu'à la place bordant le hameau. Monter à gauche par un vieux chemin caladé entre les frênes sur 50m. Ignorer à gauche un itinéraire venant du sommet du Caroux et filer tout droit sur le chemin jusqu'au col de l'Airole.

Continuer en face, le sentier descend en lacets dans les châtaigneraies. En bas, franchir un ruisseau sur un pont et entrer dans le hameau d'Héric.

Au carrefour, monter à droite sur un chemin caladé entre des murets. Après une forte montée, atteindre un petit col (vue à gauche sur le Fourcat d'Héric). L'itinéraire alterne ensuite montées et replats. Rejoindre une bifurcation au niveau du col de Salis.

Continuer en face, s'élever vers un nouveau col (à gauche, arche du roc Traucat). Redescendre en sous-bois, franchir plusieurs petits ravins et atteindre le pont du Vialais. Monter à droite dans la forêt et 100m plus loin, dans un virage, se diriger à gauche en ignorant le sentier en face. Monter jusqu'au col de l'Ourtigas.

Gagner la D180, aller à droite sur quelques mètres, puis monter à droite sur une piste cimentée. Sortir de la forêt et tourner à droite. En fin de montée, s'orienter à gauche et cheminer sur les crêtes de la montagne d'Aret au-dessus du Vialais. Rester sur la piste principale en ignorant des départs de sentiers à droite.

Au niveau du col du Tirondel, monter et tourner à gauche sur un sentier. Parvenir à une bergerie en ruines, descendre jusqu'à Douch. A droite rejoindre la place du hameau, puis par la route, rejoindre le point de départ.
